Goal 2: Provide both vision and leadership for network solutions to meet district needs.

Objective A: Maintain the stability of each school building’s Local Area Network (LAN), to support voice, video and data. Each LAN should link computer labs, classrooms, and media centers to allow students and teachers to share curriculum based software, new technologies, and local and international information. Actively investigate high-speed connections including fast building interconnects.

Objective B: Upgrade the district’s wireless network to support additional classroom technology as well as securely support student use of personal technology for educational purposes. It is our intention to allow and encourage appropriate classroom use of student’s own laptops, tablets and other information access devices.

Objective C: Continue to maintain and upgrade network technology across the district on a regularly scheduled basis. Upgrade network switches and firewalls to support advancing bandwidth needs for advanced applications. Investigate ways of providing the rapidly increasing storage needs of students and staff for advanced media, digital portfolios

Objective D: Maintain district Wide Area Network (WAN) through the use of VPN technology. Support VPN client access to district network for home use for critical users and administrators. Investigate staff/student access of files form home.

Objective E: Expand web-based distance learning opportunities for teacher professional development and student learning. Continue to support use of the Atomic Learning website by district staff, students and parents.

Objective F: Continue to provide home-to-school access to teachers for email. Increase ease and stability of file retrieval between home and school for teachers and students while maintaining network security. Ongoing experiments into options such as Google Apps may provide a solution for increased access to files for teachers and students.

Objective G: Purchase appropriate surge suppressors and battery backup with all computer systems. Continue conversations with the Director of Facilities during computer and network replacement and expansion to ensure that electrical infrastructure supports technology appropriately and safely.
