Personally Owned Laptop Procedure
Personally owned laptops are allowed in the Hopkinton School District, however, students and staff must read and sign
the applicable laptop procedure form which lays out the guidelines for the use of such laptops in school. The two
applicable forms are included on the following pages.
Student Laptop Procedure Form
1. Students may bring in and use a student-owned laptop to school for educational use. Laptops may not be
brought to school for recreational use (game playing, movie watching, music playing etc.).
2. The school district is not responsible for any loss or damage done to the laptop while at school or on the bus.
3. Student-owned laptop will NOT be allowed to join any district network via an Ethernet or wireless connection (or
any other means).
4. Students who wish to bring a laptop to school must register that laptop with the office and sign a student laptop
procedure form, including the signature of a parent or guardian.
5. All elements of the district’s Acceptable Use Policy (see attached) and other district policies and rules apply to
student-owned laptops used while in school.
6. Students may use a floppy disk, CD or DVD, or USB drive to move appropriate, educational files to a schoolowned
computer for printing or saving to the school file server.
7. Any violation of these procedures or of the Acceptable Use Policy (or any other district policy) while using a
student-owned laptop will result in the laptop being banned from school (as well as additional disciplinary action
in accordance with the guidelines set forth in the student handbook).
